Awards:  Cannes 2004 - "Camera d'Or" and Critics' Week Grand Prize (tied), Bratislava '04 Grand Prix, Jerusalem '04 Best Israeli Feature, Award of the Israeli Film Academy '04 for Best Actress, to Dana Ivgy

Employing a raw and grittily graphic realism, this grim but compelling film charts the sentimental education of Or, a teenage girl trying to hold down a restaurant job and keep her boyfriend, while caring for her chaotic, sickly and seemingly self-destructive ex-prostitute mother. Given the actresses credentials, its perhaps unsurprising that the first thing one notices about the movie is their brave and very effective performances. But the film also boasts an often-intriguing ambiguity. Whatever, this tough, uncompromising drama certainly has its heart in the right place, and quite enough intelligence in its subtle presentation of telling details to remain both credible and affecting.
