AGNES AND HIS BROTHERS
AGNES UND SEINE BRUDER
AGNES AND HIS BROTHERS
Germany, 2004, 116 min, color

Three siblings in search of happiness: Hans-Jorg is a sex-addicted librarian who chases young female students. Werner is a successful career politician, whose family is falling apart: his wife rejects him and his son exploits every occasion he can to test his fathers limits. Agnes, in turn, drifts through the night as a dancer in clubs. Bound by their unquenchable yearning for love and acceptance, the three siblings have embarked on a journey to find what they have longed for all their life: happiness.

My aim was to portray human beings in their awkward, clumsy attempts to break out of their narrow middle-class prisons, and to show the strange results this can lead to. Though on the one hand I took a socio-satirical approach, on the other I was also very concerned about depicting things in a human way. Basically, the film is a study of the inability of men to come to terms with the society theyve created.
