The Tulse Luper Suitcases traces the history of uranium through 92 suitcases belonging to Tulse Luper, a self-described writer, project maker and professional prisoner. Its a kaleidoscopic journey begins in 1928 (the year uranium was discovered), with the 10-year old Luper locked up by his father for writing graffiti on a crumbling wall. Ten years later we find Luper in the Utah desert, where he is again jailed, this time for his association with the wrong people. When we next encounter Luper, he is being imprisoned by Belgian Nazis in an Antwerp hotel.
